Please note that the conference center (Northwestern University Allen Center) is a limited access facility. All conference participants including non-scientific guests must register and receive a badge in order to enter the conference venue.  This badge must be worn at all times: this same badge will also be required for meals, coffee breaks, and the daily evening programs.

On-line Advanced Registration

Advanced conference registration is being handled on-line by SPIE. This allows you to submit your registration information, and use their secure on-line payment processing system. Please register by following the link below:


*You will need to enter your last (family) name and email address (if you are already logged in to mySPIE you can simply click next). You then Provide your contact information and indicate if you are a student and click next. You can then select your type of registration. If you would like to register yourself and your guest select 'Technical', and the next page will allow you to add your guest(s). You can then pay via credit card or paypal. Be sure that you only click the check-out button once.

On Site Registration

Advanced registration will close at 6:00 AM (CST) on Saturday, 1 September, 2012. The conference welcome desk at the venue will open at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, 4 September, 2012. We will begin accepting on-site registrations at that time. On site registration will close after the welcome reception dinner, and resume the following morning at 7:00 AM. Please NOTE that credit card payments will need to be processed through the online registration website so there is no advantage to waiting until you arrive on site (if you register after August 31st please bring a copy of your registration confirmation email. On-site cash payments (in US dollars) will also be accepted.

The welcome/registration desk will be located in the north atrium of the Allen Center, across from the conference hall (see star on map to the right). Attendees arriving via the shuttle or personal autos parking on site will enter directly into the north atrium. However, if you walk to to the conference center, you will enter via the main entrance (east entrance), and then the concierge desk will direct you to the registration desk.

All cancellation requests must be submitted in writing to the conference chair. The registration fee will be refunded if the cancellation request is received before August 1st. However, an administration fee of US$200 will be deducted from the refund ($100 for students). 

Due to booking requirements, it is impossible to cancel after August 1st; however,if you cannot attend, you can transfer your registration to a colleague (if of the same type of registration).  Please send an email with specific instructions to

Student Registration

Students are encouraged to attend MIOMD-XI. Two different subsidized student registration options are being made available. However, due to limited seating at the on-site dining facilities the student w/ meals registration option is no longer available. For student registration, you will be required to submit a copy of your student identification card and a short letter from your supervising professor.
